The catalogue description states:
Famous print of George Washington as Freemason. Washington was a well-known Mason, offered the position of Grand Master, and appointed Master of Alexandria Lodge 22 in Virginia. Artist Hattie E. Burdette depicts him here donning full masonic regalia, including the apron, which bears a pyramid icon. His hat is adorned with a masonic compass, and he wears a sunburst around his neck. The apron also features the American flag crossed with another. A ``G`` hovers over his shoulder, rumored to symbolize God. Fine print to the lower right indicates this was printed as part of the ``George Washington Bicentennial Celebration``, copyright Sol Bloom. Bloom made a name for himself in the Worlds Fair and became a U.S. Congressman. Measures 31.5`` x 45.75``. In very good condition, with a few small tears, and rippling and toning to verso.
What did this print sell for? I have a period, framed print of George Washington by Hattie E Burdette dimentions are approx 48" x 36" with the hand carved frame. Print is in excellent condition. I would like to sell my framed print at auction. Thank you alisonstanford@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI have the same vintage print in a the original frame. I've just had the print professionally dry mounted and the original frame cleaned, the gilt restored and new hanging hard wear. I too would like to know the value of this piece.
